Security guards must divide their attention in many ways in order to monitor alarms and cameras while also checking credentials and conducting security checks of visitors and employees who wish to gain enter the workspace. They must compose regular observation reports, detain violators and interview witnesses if necessary.

- Top physical strength:
The best guards spend a few days a week in cardio training and doing strength building exercises. From long hours of standing (or even sitting) to moving heavy objects and most importantly detaining criminals a guard must have excellent stamina.
- Decisive:
In a dangerous situation, the greatest guards act quickly. Preventing a criminal from escaping means knowing the shortcuts, hiding spots and when to ask for help from other staff members.
