During summertime, school buildings, community centers, and even some business places might close for some of the months off.  Fair enough to close. The trouble is, during times of staff absence, security can be heavily compromised. How can your school, organization, or business stay secure if no one is around to keep an eye out?

Many people in management will answer that private security personnel aren’t necessary since security cameras are enough guardianship during vacation times. True, security cameras are advisable for any school, organization, or business because they function both as a deterrent and a digital recorder of illicit activity. In addition, with today’s technical sophistication, security cameras can be configured to best meet our needs. For instance, you can program your security cameras to sound alarms in certain circumstances, and/or trigger a direct call to the police. In terms of video recording, security camera footage is now as much a part of evidence as the police are evidence collectors – it’s a basis for building or throwing out a case.

At the same time, security cameras need to be viewed as assisting humans in security, not acting in lieu of them. As a case in point, security cameras are liable to be disarmed by anyone knowledgeable about their workings.

Ideally, your school/organization/business will both install security cameras and order private security personnel for your premises during closed days, or even during off-hours on a routine day.

A private security guard can do the following to keep your school/organization/business safe during summertime:

  • Work odd-hour shifts, patrolling the area or staying at one setting.
  • Serve as human deterrent. If potential intruders see that the place is guarded even during closures, they are less likely to try their hand at break-ins.
  • Report suspicious activity. A live security guard can call in any unwarranted activity on your premises, and is also trained to handle any violence.

Sometimes, if the premises are closed, people don’t think full security is so warranted. However, if you consider returning to your school, organization or business, fresh from time off, only to find it vandalized or robbed, how would you feel?  Not to mention, locals will be leery about your security during the rest of the year, and ill-word could spread. Therefore, calculate your cost-benefit of risk versus security, keeping in mind that you want to enjoy your time off during the summer, as stress-free as possible.
